The Overthrow Book
Fun fact--this was the working title for this book until I finished it. I seriously considered using 'overthrow' somewhere in the official title but eventually opted not to. This one (unsurprisingly) has the main characters overthrowing their kingdom's dictator. And that's just the first chapter. There's betrayal, grand schemes, a sprinkling of religious trauma, and all set in a cold kingdom far away.
The Story
*rubs temples* This book. She's given me a run for my money. I love the concept, love the characters, but fell into a common writer fallacy. I tried to make the characters do what I wanted them to do, rather than what they wanted. I'm still in the process of rooting out my voice in this work and making sure everything the characters do is authentic. All of these characters are very interesting and almost make it harder to write because they all have such different motivations that pit them against one another. All truces are temporary, but what happens when you start to care about the people you're working with? When their goals become important to you because they become important? How long can you put your own plans at bay, how far will you go to help them succeed, when you also have a mission and a deadline?

When I have an answer, you all might have a book.
